What is an Online Course?
The online courses at VIU are completely internet based with no face to face meetings. Online students are required to do weekly readings, submit assignments and participate in class discussions using VIU’s online learning platform. There are times when it is necessary to hold a group activity or to have instructor support of student learning. The courses are instructor-led but require self-discipline. For the most part students work independently on their own schedule. The instructor leads the class activities, manages the discussion forums, monitor and assess student progress and performance in the online classroom.

I have submitted my online application, what do I do next?

How do I pay the application fee?
Paying the application fee is easy. VIU accepts many payment methods including credit card and wire transfers. For a full list of the methods of payment accepted by Virginia International University, please see the VIU website. payment information area of the VIU website.

How will I know if I have been accepted into the program that I applied for?
After receiving all admission documents and fees the Admissions office will make an official decision on whether to admit you as a student. You will be informed by email once the decision has been made. The process generally takes about one week once your application is complete. I would like to transfer credits from another college or university, how can I do this?

Do I have to come to campus if I enroll in an online program at VIU?
No. VIU’s online programs are set up so that students can complete an entire degree online. You will not be required to travel to campus at any time. Students may choose to take some classes online and others on campus. In this case we recommend that you contact the Registrar’s Office to talk about your options.

I have been accepted to VIU. How do I register for Classes?
Congratulations on your acceptance to VIU! To register for classes for the very first time, we recommend you contact your academic advisor, or the registrar to set up an advising appointment. You can have this appointment by telephone, live chat, or even video chat through skype! The registrar will be able to map your course load, let you know what courses are available, and make suggestions on the courses that are the best fit for you.

How do I pay my Tuition?
Once you have enrolled in classes, paying your tuition fees is easy. VIU accepts many payment methods including credit card and wire transfers. . All students pay a per-credit-hour rate based on how may course credits they take each semester. All students pay the same mandatory Campus Fees. Some students will pay additional per-credit-hour Course Fees depending on whether they are enrolled in online classes or other special circumstances.
The deadline to make a tuition payment is one week before the first day of classes. The semester payment is due in full. Payments received at the Accounting Office by 6:00 p.m. (EST) Monday through Friday will be considered as that day’s business. Allow plenty of time for processing payments. Payments received are applied to the oldest outstanding amount first.

How do I get a VIU E-Mail Account?
When you are accepted to VIU and have started the enrollment process, VIU’s IT Department will set up an e-mail account for you. It is very important that you know your VIU email address, as it will be the main mode of communication between you, your Instructor and the University. You can check an account status through the IT Services website at http://it.viu.edu.

How do I login to my classes?
As a student of VIU Online, you will be taking your courses through eCampus, our virtual learning environment. eCampus is a digital learning platform for you to access your course material, submit your assignments, communicate with your instructor and classmates. When you register for classes, you will receive an email from the School of Online Education. Your eCampus credentials and access information will be emailed to your VIU provided email address as a separate message.

Do I have to buy Textbooks?
No. Your textbook and other reading material will be provided inside your course page in your virtual learning environment. VIU has access to a huge digital library from which we get our eTextbooks and scientific articles for you to read. Your eTextbook will not cost anything to you. Also, you will have access to VIU library resources online at no extra cost to you.
