Admission Procedures

Choose a Program of Study:

At VIU's School of Online Education, you may choose your program of study, ranging from graduate certificates, to bachelor's degrees, to master's degrees in the areas of business, computer science and information systems, education, public and international affairs, or language studies. Each program offers a wide variety of concentrations to pursue your career goals. Learn more about online degree programs to discover the program that is right for you!

Create an Application Account:

The first step to applying to VIU's School of Online Education is to create an online application account and submit the online application form. Please note that when you click on "online application" you will leave this webpage and be directed to our online application form. You will need to create an account before beginning your online application.

Payment of $50 Application Fee:

Before the online application can be submitted, a mandatory $50 application fee is required. After the fee is received and processed by the university, the applicant may begin submitting the required application documents. The following methods of payment are accepted:

  1. Credit Card
    We accept valid credit or debit card payments both online and on-site at our location in Fairfax, Virginia. VIU Online accepts Master, Visa, American Express, and Discover cards.
  2. Cash
    Cash is only accepted on-site at our location in Fairfax, Virginia. Cash payments are accepted in the Accounting Office, located in our Waples Mill Campus in Room 3. Do not send cash payments through postal mail.
  3. Check
    Checks must be payable to Virginia International University. Pre-endorsed checks will not be accepted. Please send checks to:

  4. Wire Transfer

Submission of Admission Documents:

After the application fee has been processed by the Accounting Office, you will be able to submit all of your supporting documents within 3-5 business days, depending on the method of payment you have chosen. (NOTE: You will see the "Document Tracking" tab on the left side of your application portal when you are able to upload your documents.) Please submit your application documents by uploading them to the application portal. After your documents are correctly uploaded in the system, we ask that you allow 7-10 business days for the Admissions Office to process your documents. For a list of the documents required for the application process, please click here. Only original or scanned color copies of the original documents will be accepted for admission purposes. Photos are NOT considered acceptable documentation. The Admissions Office reserves the right to request an original document at any time.

Verifying the Status of an Admission Application:

After you submit all of the required documents through the application portal, you will be able to check the status of your application by logging into the application portal. After a document or fee has been processed, the status of that document will be updated in the application portal. Please be sure to read the notes left on any document(s) not yet set with the label "Complete/Accepted" for further instruction on what you will need to do to complete the process for that particular document. During this time, submitted documents will be reviewed and evaluated. Admissions Officers will communicate errors and status updates through the online application portal. Applicants must check the application portal and associated email account daily.

NOTE: After you have correctly uploaded your document(s), the status of that document will be "Received-Pending." Please do not upload the same document more than once.

Enrolling at VIU:

New VIU Online students are required to register for classes prior to the first day of the semester for which they have been accepted into. VIU Online enrollment advisors are here to help you register and to make sure your classes are a proper fit for you and your academic goals.
